Jordan announces execution of two Iraqis

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordan early on Wednesday announced execution of the Iraqis, Sajida Al-Rishawi and Ziad Al-Karbouli, for involvement in terrorism.

Jordanian Ministry of Interior said in a statement that Al-Rishawi was hanged upon a judicial rule issued by the State Security Court on September 21, 2006. Her fellow citizen, Al-Karbouli, was similarly executed, according to a court verdict released on March 6, 2007.

Execution of the pair came hours after the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) announced that it had "executed" the Jordanian pilot Moath Al-Kasasbah by burning him alive.

Al-Rishawi was involved in three simultaneous bombing attacks that targeted hotels in Amman in 2005. Up to 60 people died in these attacks, but herself survived because explosives strapped to her body failed to blow up. Al-Karbouli was convicted by a Jordanian military court, in 2006, of abducting a Jordanian driver, robbing and killing him, in addition to other crimes.

The ISIL, based in some parts of Iraq and Syria, had held the airman since December. It had called on Amman to release Al-Rishawi in exchange for a Japanese hostage, who was also killed by the organization, a few days ago.

Jordanian authorities announced that the pilot was killed by the militants in January.
