Qatar- Al Bawasil Camp for diabetic kids opens


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The 15th Al Bawasil International Spring Camp for children with diabetes is taking place at Aspire Academy with 52 kids from 14 countries taking part in fun-filled educational activities.

The camp is organised by Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).

The children in the age group 7-11 are taking a week-long programme to help them deal with living with the disease.

The camp is part of initiatives supported by QF to promote healthcare and well-being in Qatar through education and awareness of health problems and provide effective ways to deal with them. "The camp aims to create a safe and loving environment for children with diabetes, teach them how to control the disease and avoid complications to reach their full potential," said Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq, Executive Director, QDA. "It will enable the children to exchange views and share experiences."

Aspire Academy, Al Jaish Sports Club, Action on Diabetes and Ooredoo have participated in organising the camp that runs until February 5.

The boys and girls from Qatar, Sudan, Afghanistan, Morocco, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Iran, Kuwait, Palestine, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and Saudi Arabia have been divided into four teams. Each team is attending workshops and training sessions supervised education, health and nutrition experts.

Dr Al Hamaq delivered the opening speech, followed by a speech by and a movie on the mascots of the camp - Basil and Sukar - and two programmes to create awareness about diabetes and show that living with diabetes can be achieved with good control.
