Sicilian Volcano Quiets Down after Lava Flow at Weekend
(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The eruption of Sicily's Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, abated Monday after lava streamed over its south-eastern crater at the weekend.
Flights to and from the Italian island's international airport in Catania were not cancelled as has been the case during previous volcanic activity, dpa reported.
The 3,350-metre-high Mount Etna, located on the eastern coast of Sicily, frequently produces small eruptions with fountains of ash widely visible.
Its last major eruption occurred in 1992.
