Dubai — A clerk who reportedly admitted to stealing from at least two persons after spiking their drinks was charged in the Court of First Instance on Sunday.
In the first case he allegedly lured a salesman to meet him and then stole his cash and belongings after spiking his juice with sedatives. According to prosecution records the accused a 32-year-old Pakistani identified as M.D. stole Dh2100 in cash two cheques drawn for Dh6000 and a mobile phone from his compatriot after spiking his drink with sleeping pills. The accused met the victim on the pretext of selling him scrap.
He was charged with forced theft and putting others’ lives at risk. This incident was reported on June 19 2012. The victim 34 said in the public prosecution investigation that M.D. phoned him around 8am on the day of incident. “He claimed he had lots of scrap items that he wanted to sell. He told me to meet him near a restaurant in Umm Al Rumoul industrial area.”
When the salesman went to meet him in his car M.D. came out from the restaurant holding juice and biscuits. “He got in my car and rode with me. He told me to wait for his sponsor.”
The complainant drank the juice offered by the accused after which he reportedly fainted. “I woke up later and found that my belongings were gone.”
A police sergeant said M.D. was arrested in Ajman in connection with a separate street theft complaint.
“We learnt that M.D. followed the same modus operandi when robbing the complainant in this case. We summoned him to the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the complainant identified him there” the sergeant told the prosecutor. M.D. reportedly admitted that he planned to steal from many others using the same modus operandi.
