Austria's unemployment rate at 10.5 percent in January


(MENAFN) According to the Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs released figures, the country's unemployment rate increased to 10.5 percent at January-end, Xinhua reported.

The rate has jumped by 5.1 percent over a year ago and by 0.8 percent over the previous month, with limited governmental measures to boost the employment market, the minister said.

The construction industry marked the largest source of unemployment, with 18.5 percent of the total unemployed previously working in that field, despite a 2.6 percent unemployment increase in January.

More major increases were in the sectors of subcontracted labor, which went up 14.4 percent, followed by the trade sector rising 10.3 percent and the tourism sector soaring 9.9 percent in the cited period.
