77 new aircraft boost Saudia fleet


(MENAFN- Arab News) Saudi Arabian Airlines has received a new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft which can fly nonstop for 16 hours. The aircraft according to Saleh Al-Jasser the airline's director general would strengthen Saudia's domestic and international fleet.

The new Boeing aircraft landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport on Friday. It is the third Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with two classes and 15th of 20 new aircraft ordered by Saudia from the American manufacturer.

'We have so far received 77 new aircraft from a total of 90 aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing' Al-Jasser said. The new Boeing aircraft will have 30 seats in the business class and 351 in economy (guest) class.

The arrival of new aircraft would definitely boost the airline's operational and marketing strategies Al-Jasser said. It will also help us operate flights to new international destinations he added.

The new aircraft would support the airline to increase its market share of the huge Umrah traffic the DG said. 'It will also support Saudia's marketing plans and its efforts to confront competition from other airlines' he said.

The Saudia chief described Boeing 777-300ER as one of the best long-range aircraft available in the market adding that there has been big demand for the aircraft from leading international airlines.

The environment friendly aircraft is manufactured using advanced material to reduce weight and increase operational and economic efficiency. With wider seats the aircraft provides passengers greater comfort he said.

Meanwhile Saudia has won top place in on-time performance in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and fifth position in the world in 2014 according to a report published by FlightStats an international organization that specializes in airlines and airports and follows their performance.

FlightStats said Saudia achieved 87.76 percent on-time performance after operating 189297 flights with 33.74 million seats in 2014.

In a statement on the occasion Al-Jasser expressed his satisfaction over the report issued by an independent organization. He said FlightStats follows more than 150000 daily flights operated by different airlines across the world.

'Saudia was able to achieve this high rate of performance as a result of advanced planning and hard work of its employees' the director general said. Saudia operates more than 500 domestic and international flights daily.
