Saudi- 'Confront extremism by engaging youth'
(MENAFN- Arab News) Government and civil society bodies must do more to find out the needs and aspirations of young people so that they are not lured away by extremists.
This is one of the recommendations of the 10th national dialogue on extremism and its effect on national unity in Najran that concluded Sunday.
This is one of the key initiatives of the King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue (KACND) which aims to determine the causes of extremism and how to deal with it through open discussion.
The Najran event included 70 top educators scholars and members of the media. The discussion included a focus on all forms of extreme behavior including among tribes Muslims and sports fans.
Fahd Al-Sultan deputy secretary-general of the organization who read out the conclusions of the meeting urged scholars and specialists to produce a definition of extremism that can be spread in the media and at educational institutions.
Another recommendation called on the government to draft laws that would work to punish those who propagate and get involved in any behavior that damages the social fabric of the country.
The event will also take place in Asir Jazan Baha and Makkah to promote a culture of dialogue in society on the country's most important issues.
