Now the firm is showing customers how to make its cars even better value for money. Ford has published the results of a study into car usage that reveals simple techniques to make significant savings on fuel. The first recommendation is to remove any excess and unneeded weight. This can include items left forgotten in the boot but also suggests the removal of roof racks when they are not in use. Removing such items can save as much as 20% on fuel.

Ford also suggests that motorists shop around for their fuel as this could result in savings of around 7% over the course of the year. Checking tyre pressure is something that that is often overlooked. Not only is this a safety concern but it can also cost money as incorrectly inflated tyres can cause the car to consume 4% more fuel. Ford's survey also reveals that some motorists regularly drive too fast and this will always burn more fuel as well as being a road safety issue. Finally many drivers fail to anticipate conditions on the road ahead and this results in stop / start driving that burns too much fuel. A smoother driving style will always be more economcal.
