King receives phone call from Japanese prime minister


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday received a telephone call from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who voiced his thanks and appreciation of the Japanese government for efforts exerted by Jordan under the King's leadership to secure the release of Japanese hostages.

The Japanese premier also praised the close coordination with the Jordanian government and security agencies, regarding efforts to release Japanese hostage Kenji Goto, who was killed by the Daesh terrorist group.

The Japanese prime minister also said he hoped that Jordanian pilot Muath Kasasbeh would return safely to Jordan. He expressed Japan's keenness to further strengthen relations with Jordan, particularly in the fight against terrorism.

During the telephone call, His Majesty voiced his strong condemnation, and that of the Jordanian people and government, for this criminal act that he said is rejected by all international norms and charters and is not related in any way to Islam.

The King also thanked Abe for his sincere feelings towards Kasasbeh, noting that all efforts are being exerted to secure his release.

King Abdullah stressed the need for concerted international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism. He also expressed his condolences, and those of the Jordanian people, to Japanese Emperor Akihito, the family of Goto and the Japanese people.

Further, His Majesty said the Kingdom was proud of its distinguished ties with Japan in all fields.
