East Ukraine rebels plan 'general mobilisation'

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) MOSCOW, Rabi'II 13, 1436, February 02, 2015, SPA - Separatist forces fighting government forces in eastern Ukraine plan a 'general mobilisation' under which thousands of men will be called up, one of their main leaders was quoted as saying on Monday, Reuters reported.

Russian news agency RIA reported that Alexander Zakharhenko, leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, had said the call-up was planned in 10 days and would affect 10,000 people, but did not say how it would be enforced.

Fighting has increased in eastern Ukraine in the past few weeks and hopes of easing the situation faded after peace talks collapsed on Saturday. Kiev has also mobilised more troops because of the surge in fighting.
