Dar Al Ber continues relief aid to Syrian refugees


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) DUBAI, 2nd February, 2015 (WAM) - The Dar Al Ber Society, DABS, is continuing its weekly humanitarian relief aid delivery to ease the suffering of displaced Syrian refugees in the Levant where they are badly affected by the winter.

The assistance materials are part of the Tarahamu, or UAE Compassion campaign, initiated by the prudent leadership, and in coordination with the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai.

The over 35-year-old charity association, run by the Dubai Government, has also resumed its contributions to displaced Syrian refugees in Lebanon in cooperation with the Ishraq Al Noor Charity Society. It has also built a new camp for displaced people in the Shebaa farms of Lebanon.

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed, Executive Director of the Dar Al Ber Society, said the Society is continuing with its participation in the campaign initiated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to help the Syrian refugees survive the powerful snow storms hitting the region.

"The Dar Al Ber Society has provided a variety of direct financial and in-kind relief supplies to the Syrian refugees since the first relief campaign kicked off in 2012, as well as a AED1 million contribution to the Emirates Red Crescent for the Tarahamu drive, and a donation of AED1.6 million via the Ishraq Al Noor Charity Society in Lebanon in December 2014 and January 2015 for buying medical supplies, blankets, clothes, foodstuff, diapers, milk for children and cash assistance for accommodating displaced families at the Middle Bekaa Camps." According to the weekly report, the Society has provided 18,000 litres of oil or fuel for warming 900 families, 40 tons of potatoes for 2,600 families, 7,800 bread packets, 3,400 bottles of children's milk, 700 pairs of anti-water and snow shoes for children, 500 heavy winter blankets, 1,000 diapers for young babies, 300 packets of diapers for special needs and seniors, and 400 pairs of winter socks.

Bin Zayed said the Dar Al Ber Society has provided the Middle Bekaa and Shebaa Camps with 16,000 litres of oil or fuel for warming 800 families, six tons of potatoes for 450 families, 450 packets of diverse foodstuff, 350 bottles of children's milk, cleaning materials and 350 heavy winter blankets while some tents have been repaired.

"Relief materials delivered to the Shebaa Camps included nine tons of potatoes for 700 families and clothes for 1,000 children, along with foodstuff and personal items to ease the suffering of Syrian refugees during the tough winter," he said.

The Dar Al Ber Society accepts donations at its headquarters on the Sheikh Zayed road, and at the Ibrahim Al Khalil Mosque in Bur Dubai, as well as its branches in Ras al-Khaimah, Ajman, the Women Affairs Department of the society at Barsha, the Quran Study centres in Mamzar, Nad Al Hamar (women), Jumeira, Al Musa (men), the staff representatives at cooperative societies and shopping centres, and the society bank accounts in the Dubai Islamic Bank and the Abu Dhabi Islamic bank.
