Egypt and Gulf security closely 'linked', says Egyptian premier


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1, (KUNA): Visiting Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said here on Sunday the security of Kuwait and the Gulf is part of Egypt's security. Mahlab made the remark following a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, saying his meeting earlier today focused on economic and political conditions and terrorism. He said that Egypt and Kuwait have a common fate and a unified strategic vision, noting that the meeting tackled the political vision and Egypt's roadmap, as well as preparations for an international economic conference slated for mid-March in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh.

The premier stated that Egypt is facing "brutal terrorism", stressing that the country is continuing combating it and defending the region and the whole world, while going ahead with the process of construction inside the country. Mahlab was received by His Highness the Amir at Bayan Palace in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The relations between the two countries, several issues of common interest and the latest developments on regional and international arenas were the focus of the meeting.

Mahlab arrived here earlier today for a three-day visit heading an economic delegation, at the invitation of His Highness the Prime Minister. His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al- Sabah held official talks with visiting Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab at Bayan Palace here on Sunday. The talks were held in a friendly atmosphere that reflected the depth of historical and close relations between both countries as well as mutual willingness to further promote and boost bilateral cooperation to cover various fields that serve people-to-people interests and match the size of brotherly and firm bonds.

The talks showed the willingness of Kuwait and Egypt to exert more efforts to support relations among all Arab countries and to achieve solidarity in face of terrorism with a view to maintaining security and stability and providing decent living conditions to Arab people. Kuwaiti Minister of Finance Anas Al- Saleh, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah, Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Saleh Al-Omair, Minister of State for Housing Affairs Yasser Abul, several other state officials and the visiting Egyptian prime minister's accompanying delegation were present in the meeting.

His Highness the Prime Minister then held a luncheon banquet in honor of the Egyptian prime minister and his party. Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim received on Sunday, the visiting Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and his accompanying delegation. The meeting mirrored the depth of close historical ties between the two countries and ways and means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various areas. Al-Ghanim expressed that Kuwait and Egypt need to exert more efforts to promote relations among Arab countries and to achieve solidarity to confront terrorism in all its forms and manifestations for the security and stability of Arab peoples, especially in light of the circumstances in region.

The meeting was attended by senior members of the National Assembly and the visiting Egyptian prime minister's accompanying delegation. Mahlab received several Kuwaiti officials and an Arab organization representative at the launch of his three-day stay in Kuwait on Sunday.

The encounters, which were held at the Egyptian premier's residence at Bayan Palace, began with the State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al- Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. This was followed by others, held separately, with Managing Director of Kuwait Investment Authority Bader Al- Saad and Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Hisham Al-Wugayan. Mahlab also received Director General and Chairman of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development Abdullatif Al-Hamad. All of the encounters were held in the presence of Kuwait's Ambassador to Egypt Salem Al-Zamanan.

Mahlab arrived here on Sunday for a three-day visit heading an economic delegation at the invitation of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. He was received at Kuwait Airport by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Accompanying Mission of Honor and Adivsor at His Highness the Premier's Diwan Sheikh Dr Salem Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and a number of senior officials and ambassadors to the country.
