Probe on as Kuwaitis add 'others' in citizenship files


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: The General Department for Citizenship and Travel Documents is checking a number of files after receiving confidential reports that several Kuwaitis have added the names of 'persons' in their files other than their sons with the aim of giving citizenship to these persons, reports Al-Shahed daily. According to sources, the investigation cell of the Department will summon the suspects for interrogation for violating the Nationality Law.

The sources added some persons were actually proven involved in such forgery and their files will be submitted to the Supreme Committee of Citizenship, followed by submission to the Council of Ministers for action.

The sources added the General Department for Citizenship is gathering evidences to identify persons who hold dual nationality. Sources noted there are 3,000 people who hold dual citizenship and this has been proven through cooperation with a number of countries. The General Department for Citizenship and Travel Documents is keen to revoke the nationality but at the same time working to coerce those who are holding dual citizenship to correct their status with a pledge not to repeat the offence.
