Pakistani Navy frigate in Kuwait to boost bilateral ties

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Pakistani Navy frigate, PNS Tariq, docked at Kuwaiti shores on Sunday on a "mutual" visit aimed at "strengthening bilateral ties," said its Captain Wiqar Mohammad.

The Kuwait Navy had carried out exercises in Pakistan, and in return its Pakistani counterpart is doing the same in Kuwait, he said.

Pakistan is committed to aiding the spread of peace and stability in the region, maintaining free trade routes and assisting the international community in its fight against terrorism, added Mohammad at a press conference on board the ship.

The stop, which lasts until Thursday, is mutual, said the Captain, whereby officers on board the frigate will be taking the opportunity to interact with their fellow Kuwaiti counterparts, aiming to add a boost to bilateral relations.

PNS Tariq is named after Muslim leader Tariq bin Ziyad, whose conquests which were launched from North Africa led to the expansion of Islamic rule in Europe.

"He (Tariq) is a source of inspiration for Muslims all around the world, including the Pakistani Navy members who feel proud to be a part of a ship named after one of the greatest leaders in Islamic history," concluded the Pakistani officer.
