(MENAFN- QNA) King Abdullah II of Jordan received last night a telephone call from Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The Japanese Premier voiced his thanks and appreciation of the Japanese government for the efforts exerted by Jordan under the King's leadership to secure the release of Japanese hostages.
He also praised the close coordination with the Jordanian government and security agencies, regarding efforts to release Japanese hostage Kenji Goto, who was killed by the Daesh terrorist group.
The Prime Minister also said he hoped that Jordanian pilot Muath Kasasbeh would return safely to Jordan. He expressed Japan's keenness to further strengthen relations with Jordan, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
During the telephone call, the Jordanian monarch voiced his strong condemnation, and that of the Jordanian people and government, for this criminal act that he said is rejected by all international norms and charters and is not related in any way to Islam.
King Abdullah stressed the need for concerted international efforts to fight terrorism and extremism. He also expressed his condolences, and those of the Jordanian people, to Japanese Emperor Akihito, the family of Goto and the Japanese people.
