Kuwait- Nat'l Post Office 57th anniversary celebrated through exhibition

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 57th anniversary of the opening of the National Post Office was celebrated by the Kuwait Philatelic and Numismatic Society along with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters on Sunday.

The event, held at the NCCAL's Ahmad Al-Adwani Exhbition Hall, was marked by an exhibition of rare stamps, publications, documents and photographs depicting the first group of employees hired by the post office.

The first Kuwaitis employed by the National Post Office in 1958, and some of whom had been employed by the British - whom introduced the first post office years 43 years prior - were honoured for their contributions to the nation.

They include the late Sheikh Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, who was the head of postal, telegram and telephone services, and the late Khaled Al-Abdulrazzaq, who assumed the role of director general years later. Achievement awards were received on their behalf by their living family members.

"The Kuwait Philatelic and Numismatic Society organised the event in order to document and highlight the crucial past and future role of postal services and to pay homage to Kuwaiti families who contributed dearly to the service and development of these services," said board member Issa Dashti.

It is the second of such events dedicated to the matter after an earlier exhibition held in January which highlighted the first post office launched by the British colonial administrator's office 100 years ago, he told KUNA.

The society's chairman Mohammad Abdulhadi described the anniversary as having highlighted a "historic and unique shift" that took Kuwait from a dependent nation to one that was now able to handle responsibilities through its people.
