(MENAFN) GM Korea Co., the local division of US General Motors Co., said its sales shrank 3.8 percent in January despite strong demand in the domestic market, Yonhap News reported.
South Korea's third-largest automaker said it sold a total of 11,849 units in January, down from 53,606 sold in January 2014. However, overseas shipments went down 7 percent to 39,739 units.
Domestic sales surged 9 percent on-year to hit 11,849 vehicles on the back of strong demand for steady selling models. This marked the largest January sales since January 2003, when it sold 12,515 units.
"We plan to keep up our positive momentum with new products, such as the 2015 Chevrolet Spark and amazing new 2015 Chevrolet Cruze," vice president of GM Korea's vehicle sales, service and marketing said.
