The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) will partially close the Corniche road from Al Majaz 3 to the Khalid Lagoon for a total of 12 days from January 6.
According to a senior official the part of the arterial road will be closed till January 17 for completing development works.
Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Al Hajiri Director for Roads Affairs at the Sharjah RTA on Sunday said traffic will be diverted from one side of the road to a lane on the other side by turn. At first vehicles heading to Al Majaz Waterfront will have only one lane while those going to government departments in the Liya area will have two lanes.
Part of the asphalt layer will be removed and relaid during this third phase of the project which also includes some amendments to the road.

“The maintenance works to be done in collaboration with the Sharjah Police headquarters is meant to give a boost to traffic flow curb accidents and ensure road users’ safety.”
Al Hajiri said the project which is in pursuance to the instructions of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah includes three lanes which are 10.95m wide.
Urging cautious driving he said all motorists should observe speed limits and take alternative roads to avoid rush until the end of the project. “All road projects are being carried out as per strict schedules for public convenience.”
