India approves MoU on tourism with Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman and India will soon be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost tourism cooperation. The approval to enter into an MoU was given by the Indian Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which will strengthen cooperation in the field of tourism.

An official statement released by the Government of India recently stated that the main objectives of the MoU are to expand bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector exchange information and data related to tourism encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders including hotels and tour operators and to establish exchange programme for cooperation in human resource development.

The other objectives include investing in tourism and hospitality sectors exchange visits by tour operators media opinion-makers for promotion of two-way tourism to exchange experiences in the areas of promotion marketing destination development and management to participate in travel fairs exhibitions in each other's country and to promote safe honourable and sustainable tourism.

"Considering the mutual benefits both India and Oman would like to create an institutional mechanism for enhancing cooperation in this sector. The signing of the MoU will further strengthen and develop the established relationship between the Ministry of Tourism India and the Ministry of Tourism Oman" the statement added.

For the last couple of years Oman has been focusing on India as the key source market for tourism. India has also been recognised as the key source market for MICE sector and over the last six months Oman's image has been boosted tremendously as the ideal destination for extravagant Indian weddings. Oman Air too has been focusing on the Indian sector with the largest number of connections to Indian cities from the sultanate. Muscat Daily had recently quoted Abdulrahman al Busaidy COO Oman Air who said that India with its 400mn middle class population is a country that needs to be tapped.

"The 400mn Indian middle class is mobile has higher disposable income and if we can get even one per cent it is a huge number" he had said.
