Kuwait, Senegal underscore Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's visit to Dakar

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwaiti and Senegalese officials stressed here on Saturday the significance of the visit to be paid by Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Dakar tomorrow to promoting and developing bilateral relations.

Speaking to KUNA, they voiced much satisfaction with preparatory meetings held ahead of the launching of the second session of the joint Kuwaiti-Senegalese higher committee.

Chief of the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry's Africa Department Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan said the visit comes to complement the meetings of the joint committee's first session, adding that the committee convenes biennially.

The meeting is expected to cover several cooperative fields including defense, culture, development, youth and sports, he added.

It will also discuss the KFAED's financial support for 28 vital and huge development projects in Senegal at a total of USD 110 million, along with ways and means of developing and boosting bilateral ties, the Kuwaiti official noted.

He added that officials from both sides had discussed for two days possible cooperative agreements mainly in the area of youth, sports and military personnel training.

The Kuwaiti official recalled Senegal's role in supporting Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion in 1991, and its participation in the liberation of Kuwait.

For his part, the dean of the diplomatic corps and Senegalese Ambassador to Kuwait Abdulahad Ambaki said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's visit to Senegal is of paramount significance to a further promotion and development of bilateral cooperative relations.

During his stay here, the Kuwaiti minister is expected to hold talks with Senegalese President Macky Sall and Prime Minister Mohammed Dionne, he said.

The joint committee will start meetings on Monday under the chairmanship of both countries' foreign ministers, the ambassador pointed out.

Both countries will sign several agreements for bilateral cooperation in the fields of youth, sports and culture, he said, pointing to mutual willingness to push forward bilateral cooperation under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Senegalese president.

The first session of the joint committee was held in Kuwait in 2013 when a memo of understanding was signed by both sides in the field of endowments and Islamic affairs.
