Egyptian, Asian sheltering absconding domestics arrested


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31: The Capital Security Directorate, in compliance with the instructions of Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali, launched security campaigns in Sawaber, Murghab and Salhiya. These campaigns resulted in the arrest of 20 people; including four peddlers, three sellers of pornographic films, 12 expatriates with expired residential permits, and an Asian for the possession of local alcohol. All these people were referred to the concerned security authority for the necessary legal measures.

Meanwhile, security operatives attached to Jahra Command arrested three youths 16, 17 and 19 years old respectively for attacking police officers after they were caught driving in a reckless manner and engaging in gambling. The youths stoned the officers and resisted arrest before the officers finally overpowered them and impounded their cars. They were referred to the concerned authority for legal measures. In other news, officers from the Operations Department impounded 12 cars used by some youths for stunting and gambling, and issued 50 traffic citations during the operation.


10 held in sweep: Securitymen from Residence Affairs Department arrested an Egyptian with an Asian woman for sheltering absconding domestic workers and hiring them to work on hourly basis, reports Al- Shahed daily. Sources said the officers acting on a tip off and guarded with a warrant issued by the public prosecution raided an apartment in Abu Halifa and arrested eight absconding housemaids, in addition to the Asian woman and the Egyptian expatriate. The Egyptian and the Asian woman both confessed working for a Kuwaiti man. Police will summon the citizen for questioning.


Kuwaiti caught: Sabahiya securitymen arrested a Kuwaiti citizen for possessing unlicensed weapons and driving under the influence of drugs, reports Al-Rai daily. The citizen aroused suspicion of patrolmen on duty in Sabahiya due to reckless manner in which he was driving, and when they asked him to pull up for checking, they noticed he was under the influence of drugs. The officers seized two unlicensed firearms (a Kalashnikov and a pistol) in his possession, and referred him to concerned authorities for necessary action.


Culprit sought: Police are looking for an unidentified person who broke into a branch of Al-Wafra agricultural cooperative society and escaped with cigarettes and candies worth KD 2,200, reports Al-Rai daily. Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have lifted fingerprints to identify the culprit.


Youths 'high' in alcohol: Hawalli police arrested five Kuwaiti youths (three girls and two boys) for consuming alcohol, reports Al-Rai daily. The suspects were inside a car parked in Salwa area when the officers spotted them, and they seemed to be high in alcohol during arrest.

Bid to smuggle 'cat' foiled: Officers at Air Cargo Unit of the Customs Department foiled an attempt by a Kuwaiti military man to smuggle a wild animal on forged documents, reports Al-Shahed daily. The documents indicated the animal which had been brought from an unspecified Asian country was a cat. It was referred to the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR).



'Cars set ablaze': A Kuwaiti man lodged a complaint with officers in Sabahiya police station accusing his 25-year son of setting fire to two cars due to a minor dispute between them. A case was registered and the police will summon the son for questioning.
