Ten expats leave Oman after getting outpasses from embassy

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Ten Indian expatriates whose stay in a Sohar prison was extended due to absence of outpasses have been released and have left the country.

The Indian Embassy issued them the outpasses recently. Their crimes ranged from entering the country illegally to Labour Law violations. All had been sentenced for six months by a Sohar court said Yousif Salim an office bearer of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Organisation (KMCC) in Sohar.

'Although they had completed their prison terms they were unable to fly out of Oman in the absence of outpasses from the embassy and air tickets' Salim said.

'Five of them – CK Vijayan Ahhil (25) KK Ibrahim Badusha (29) KK Asharaf (38) Raghuvaran Rajkumar (40) and TP Mohammed (38) – were illegal immigrants who had entered the sultanate by paying agents. They were rounded up by Sohar police seven months ago. They left for India on Friday and Saturday' he added.

'Narasaiah a Hyderabad resident was caught by Ministry of Manpower inspectors for taking up a job other than his work permit. Two others - Mattapadi Pallan Raju and Aliya Reddy - are from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.' An official from the embassy's social welfare department said the outpasses were issued after the matter was brought to its notice by social workers from Sohar.<
