(MENAFN- QNA) Two pilots from the Philippine Air Forces were killed after a trainer plane crashed Saturday morning along a coastal area in northern province of Batangas, an official said.
Mark Leviste, vice governor of the province of Batangas, said that based on their initial investigation, a two-seater SIAI- Marchetti SF.260 trainer plane of the Philippine Air Force crashed at an area, some 150 meters away from a coastal community in the town of Nasugbu, at around 9:45 a.m. (local time).
Leviste was quoted by Chinese News Agency (Xinhua) as saying the plane took off from the Air Force's Fernando Air Base in the nearby city of Lipa.
The local official said that the aircraft was carrying an Air Force pilot instructor and his trainee, and was practicing aerobatic maneuvers for their performance for the upcoming 70th anniversary of the liberation of Nasugbu from the Japanese Imperial Forces during World War II.
The Air Force already confirmed the death of their two officers aboard, but refused to reveal their identities until their immediate family members have been advised.
The bodies of the pilots and the aircraft were already brought to the Villamor Airbase in Manila for further investigation.
Two other SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 trainer planes were also conducting maneuver practice when the incident happened.
