Tunisian President Calls for Firm Moves Against Terrorism


(MENAFN- QNA) Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi said the African continent is engaged in a war against religion-disguised terrorist organizations, calling for unification of national ranks and moves at the regional and international levels as part of a firm approach.

Addressing the 24th African Union (AU) Summit which opened here today, Essebsi said supporting the bases of joint action and intensifying consultations are essential to break the cycle of violence in some African countries such as Libya.

He warned that terrorism is a threat to all and that no state is immune to it, saying it is the responsibility of all countries of the world and expressed the solidarity of Tunisia with all states targeted by the phenomenon of terrorism.

The fight against terrorism and the empowerment of women are figuring high on the agenda of the 24th session of the African Summit which preparatory meetings kicked off since Jan. 23, under the theme : "Year of Women's Empowerment and Development towards Africa's Agenda 2063".
