44 Killed, 72 Injured in Central Baghdad Blast


(MENAFN- QNA) 44 people were killed and 77 others injured including security personnel in two explosions that targeted Al-Bab Al-Sharqi neighbourhood in central Baghdad.

An Iraqi police source said an explosive device went off near a market in which military clothes are sold at Al-Bab Al-Sharqi, adding that after the arrival of security forces which sealed off the blast's scene, a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt exploded himself killing 44 people and injuring 77 others most of them security forces personnel.

Meanwhile, a security source said personnel of the police fifth division killed three militants shortly before attempting to explode themselves in the industrial neighbourhood in Samarra city but no casualties were reported.

In central Kirkuk, a Kurdish peshmerga officer in the rank of brigadier was killed in a double bomb car and an explosive belt explosions while fierce clashes broke out with daash militants an in southern Kirkuk. Peshmerga forces and daash militants also clashed in southern Kirkuk.

In another development, 13 members of the popular mobilization forces were killed or injured in a booby-trapped house explosion in the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit.

A security source said 9 popular mobilization fighters were killed and 4 others injured in a booby-trapped house blast while carrying out an inspection and storming operation in southern Tikrit.
