Justice Arab named SHC chief justice

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The judicial commission of Pakistan has recommended the elevation Justice Faisal Arab as new Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.

The present Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar will move up as judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Arab is currently heading the special court trying former military ruler Gen. Pervez Musharraf on treason charges for subverting the constitution imposing emergency in 2007 and sacking or detaining nearly five dozen judges of the superior courts in the country.

A member of the commission aware of the decisions taken said that Justice Arab will continue to preside over the special court even after taking over the reigns as Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court.

Musharraf’s lawyer Chaudhry Faisal Hussain has already observed that the elevation of Justice Arab will not restrict him from hearing the treason case.
