(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Tiger Translate has invited talent from the East and West to merge in the UAE and show off a mix of music design and art fashion dance and photography.
How often on a night out do you get to see live artworks being created and listen to a seven-hour DJ marathon all mixed up with various elements from the fashion and photography world The answer is almost never. Although that’s about to change tonight as the Tiger Translate festival hits Zero Gravity in Dubai from 8pm.
Tiger Translate has invited talent from the East and West to merge in the UAE and show off a mix of music design and art fashion dance and photography. It will also see two artists competing for prizes in a live art showdown. The competition will reward artists as well as guests with prizes throughout the evening.
One of the DJs taking part is the UK’s Krafty Kuts (pictured left with DJ A. Skillz right).
Krafty real name Martin Reeves is best known for single Feel Like Jumpin from his album Let’s Ride. Here we catch up with the music maker for a quick chat.
In your own words describe your DJ style.
Funky party rocker.
Why do you think people come to see you
To hear some new fresh beats with a touch of trickery and skills mashed up taking in many different genres to push the boundaries and know that they will walk away knowing they have had a big night out.
Who are your influences
DJ Jazzy Jeff. He is the reason I wanted to learn how to DJ with his incredible scratching skills and funky style of music. James Brown simply because he was the king of funk and his music just made me want to dance and sample to create my own style of future funk.
What is Dubai’s reputation as a DJ music/clubbing destination
I have been coming here for a few years now and every time it just gets better and better. People are becoming more knowledgeable about dance music and there are more and more big DJs playing here. It is growing into one of the biggest new clubbing hotspots around the globe with big festivals and New Year’s Eve parties. Zero Gravity is taking things to the next level – and I think this can only help Dubai’s reputation as a clubbers’ paradise.
Where is the best place to play
Australia everything about this country works - the weather the festivals and the people. I have had so many wonderful shows out there and my last tour over Christmas and New Year was sensational.
What is your ultimate ambition
To put on my own festival lineup on a secluded island covering all genres of music and live acts would be pretty awesome.
What are your thoughts on the Tiger Translate festival and what have you got planned for your set
We have loads of new music to spin for a start fresh new flavours and styles to test out and some new routines to showcase. The last show at Zero Gravity was wicked so we expect nothing less. We have been working on stacks of new tunes and gathered some pretty hot new tracks. Looking forward to dropping these monsters.
Do you think music does bring people together
Absolutely. I met my beautiful lady in Dubai. We now have two wonderful children a lovely house in Brighton and we have never looked back. Thanks Dubai – I owe you!
Did you always want to be a DJ
When I watched DJ Cashmoney win the World DMC mixing finals back in the day...yes! I knew it was something I felt very passionate about and was dedicated to get good at the art of scratching and mixing. I still love DJing. Every day. It still gets me buzzing every time I get on stage.
What have you got coming up in the near future
I have a live band Wicked City which I am working on and is very exciting … and a label called Instant Vibes with some pretty funky music to unleash with two new Krafty tracks ready to go – Dynamite Soul and Souls on Fire.
