According to a top official the department has identified the ‘hot’ spots which get flooded during the annual rains leading to traffic jams.

Ahmad Al Hammadi Director of the RAK Public Works and Services Department said: “The recent showers have created several pools of water on the road and some cars were even flooded and trapped in the accumulated water.”

“We have also received many complaints from the public about damaged roads and houses due to the seasonal showers.”

The development of the sewage network here started on the Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Road in the city he added.

“This road starts from the Union Bridge locally known as Kentucky Bridge to the palace roundabout passing by the Safeer Mall at Al Dheit area.” “The arterial road leading to important facilities and other areas will be partially blocked for 48 hours during the development works whereas the whole operation is slated to be completed within a week.”

Al Hammadi stated that the RAK Department of Public Works and Services recently conducted a study on the Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Road.

The recent unstable weather and continuous heavy rains have flooded several houses in the emirate turned many roads into swamps blocked many vehicles ruined all sewage networks and cut electricity. “The main problem is blamed on the lack of a proper drainage network here in Ras Al Khaimah.”
