UAE- 172 illegal LPG cylinders seized in Ras Al Khaimah

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The LPG cylinders were seized during inspection raids conducted against food institutions across the northern emirate.

Ras al Khaimah: The RAK Department of Economic Development seized and destroyed 172 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders last year for failing to abide by the safety standards.

The LPG cylinders were seized during inspection raids conducted against food institutions across the northern emirate.

Faisal Abdullah Alyun head of the control and follow-up section at the department said the seized cylinders were bought from other emirates at lower prices and then secretly brought to RAK in unlicensed vehicles at late hours.

“The suspects wanted to make more money by reselling these LPG cylinders to outlets in RAK at higher prices” Alyun said.

“Such illegal cylinders pose a grave risk to people’s health and can cause massive fire and destroy properties” he said.

Alyun said it is illegal to sell gas cylinders that are more than 15 years old and should be handed over to the Civil Defence Department for destruction.

“The cylinders to be destroyed are first emptied washed and finally compressed so that they can not be used or refilled again.”

Alyun said the department will intensify inspections in gas-filling companies and dealers in the emirate to ensure that safety standards and quality are met.

Safer storage facilities for the gas cylinders installation of fire extinguishers warning logos fire alarms and other factors are among the requirements needed on the premises of companies dealing in cooking gas.

“Vehicles carrying gas cylinders from the gas-filling companies to different customers will be inspected” he said.
