29 January 2015: Audi has just revealed the Q7 a newly updated SUV that marks the start of a fresh generation of vehicles from this prestigious German brand.
Among the cars launched at this month's Detroit Motor Show the Audi Q7 is one of the more compelling arrivals. Based on a brand new platform developed for a number of new SUVs from the Volkswagen Group the Q7 will share the same basic framework as Porsche's upcoming Cayenne successor as well as an off-roader from luxury British brand Bentley.
With an aggressive-looking front grill and a 3.0 litre turbo diesel engine the new Q7 is an imposing presence. However it is both slightly smaller and considerably lighter than its predecessor thanks to the use of aluminium in the chassis which should lead to improved fuel efficiency.
British buyers will only have one engine option at first although a more affordable and lower powered model will be emerging further down the line. Whichever Q7 is chosen standard features will include 4WD and an automatic gearbox.
Before the end of 2015 Audi is going to sell a hybrid version of the Q7 which will not only be better for use on urban streets but will also have more combined power than its diesel-only stable mate thanks to the addition of an electric engine.
The first glut of new Audi Q7 models will go on sale for the sum of roughly £45000 or more. And as with the introduction of any new model this will mean that used examples from the last generation become that bit more affordable and attainable which is always a good thing.
