29 January 2015: As all the major manufacturers attempt to break the Nissan Qashqai's stranglehold on the crossover market Renault has announced its latest effort is to be called the Kadjar.
It's impossible to talk about the crossover sector without mentioning the Qashqai so Renault is smartly taking advantage of its corporate alliance with Nissan and using the Qashqai's CMF platform for the Kadjar. Style-wise the Kadjar is expected to be based around Renault's successful compact crossover the Captur - itself a rival to Nissan's counterpart model the Juke.
The Kadjar range is expected to include front- and all-wheel drive models and powertrain options in diesel and petrol - possibly the same units used by the Qashqai. Renault has promised to tease the market with a series of images via social media before an official reveal on 2 February this year and a public debut at March's Geneva Motor Show.
The Kadjar will be facing rivals such as the Skoda Yeti and Mazda CX-5 but it's the Nissan Qashqai which is the one everyone wants to beat as it leads the crossover market in the UK.
