Boeing profits surge 18.9 percent in Q4

(MENAFN) US aerospace giant Boeing reported higher-than-expected quarterly profits, wrapping up a record year of commercial airplane orders and deliveries, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The company's earnings in the fourth-quarter period expanded by 18.9 percent, hitting USD1.5 billion, on the back of a record deliveries by Boeing of 732 planes, topping the previous record of 648 planes.

The deliveries came on the back of rising demand from newer airlines in emerging markets and more seasoned firms replacing their fleets. In December, Boeing announced a new USD12 billion share purchase program.

"Strong operating performance in the final quarter of 2014 propelled us to some of our best-ever results and sealed a fifth consecutive year of core operating earnings growth," Boeing chief executive said.
