(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors) Forty years after it served up the first Big Mac in the UK American burger giant McDonald’s now has a British boss.

Watford-born Steve Easterbrook currently the firm’s chief brand officer has taken the reins of the world largest food chain.

The Brit who previously ran Pizza Express is tasked with turning around the firm’s slumping sales in the US amid intense competition and changing consumer tastes.

Fourth quarter earnings were US$1.1bn down 21% from a year earlier. The company also reported its fifth consecutive decline in sales.

Sticking with the US Facebook has reported fourth quarter profits of US$701m (£462mln) a 34% increase on the same period a year ago.

The social media giant led by Mark Zukerberg said total profits for the year were US$2.9bn almost double the total for 2013.

Acquisitions of Whatsapp and Instagram have boosted the business.

Meanwhile its smaller screen efforts are paying off as it said more than half a billion users access the site only from their mobiles.

Forbidden Technologies (LON:FBT) shares advanced as the internet video specialist said it was switching to an “all you can eat” flat rate licensing model for professional users.
