Samsung Electronics profit up 30 percent in Q4


(MENAFN) Samsung Electronics announced posting a 30 percent increase of operating profit in the fourth-quarter period of 2014 on the back of strong semiconductor sales, Xinhua reported.

Operating profit surged to USD4.87 billion in the October-December period of 2014, up from USD3.74 billion in the prior quarter, while compared to a year ago, profits dropped 36 percent.

After peaking at a record USD9.36 billion in the third quarter of 2013, Samsung's operating profit kept falling to USD3.74 billion in the third quarter of 2014 before rebounding the next quarter.

For the entire year of 2014, Samsung's operating profit hit USD23.31 trillion, down 32 percent and marking the lowest since it posted a USD14.41 billion profit in 2011.
