King, New Zealand foreign minister discuss ties, regional development


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday discussed with New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, the bilateral ties and ways to boost them, in addition to the latest regional and international developments.

His Majesty reviewed the challenges the region has been witnessing and the exerted efforts to bring about peace and stability, especially a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian case which is the core of the conflict in the region, and ending Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with the two-state solution.

The King also tackled the endeavors within the international coalition to fight terrorism and extremism as they are a major threat targeting everyone.

On the Syrian crisis, His Majesty stressed that the political solution is the only way to end the dilemma, in order to guarantee the unity and safety of Syria, pointing out that the Kingdom bears the brunt as it hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees, a situation which requires the international community to intensify its aid to Jordan to enable it to keep serving the refugees.

McCully, whose country is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, said that New Zealand is keen to strengthen cooperation with Jordan in various fields, and expressed his country's recognition of the pivotal role that Jordan plays in the promotion of international peace and security.
