Egypt- Bird flu kills woman in Giza, 10th death this year


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The Ministry of Health announced Tuesday the death of a 31-year-old woman from Giza due to bird flu, according to state media. This is the tenth death resulting from bird flu in Egypt this year.

Two new cases were also confirmed positive in the Health Ministry's press statement. A woman aged 34 from Sharqeya is receiving treatment in Al-Sadr Hospital in Zagazig, and a four-year-old girl from Cairo is receiving treatment in Manshiyet El Bakry Hospital.

On the other hand, the ministry announced that two cases diagnosed with the flu were cured. A girl aged six and another aged 20, both from Cairo.

The ministry repeated its calls advising citizens who deal with poultry and poultry products to exercise caution and take preventive measures.

It also urged them to visit the nearest hospital for medical services should they notice any flu symptoms, and stressed the importance of separating birds from residential areas, state media reported.

This is the second bird flu death case in Giza this year, after a 3-year-old child died earlier this month.

According to state media, the number of people diagnosed with bird flu since the beginning of 2015 has reached 31 patients, of whom 10 have died.
