Qatar- QBA hosts UK trade delegation


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) hosted a luncheon in honour of the visiting British trade delegation led by the Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Alan Yarrow and Fiona Adler, Sheriff of the City of London.

The event, hosted at the Majlis of QBA's Second Deputy Chairman Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani Al Thani, was also attended by Nicholas Hopton, the British Ambassador to Qatar.

From the QBA side, the event was attended by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman; Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani Al Thani, QBA Second Deputy Chairman, Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani, Sheikh Mohammed bin Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Sheikh Turki bin Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Sheikh Jassim bin Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Salah Mourad, Nabil Abu Issa, Kyle Whitehill, . Saud Omar Al Mana, Maqbool Habeeb Khalfan, Rashid Al Mansoori, CEO of Qatar Exchange and Sarah Abdallah, QBA's deputy general manager.

Lord Mayor said the visit was aimed to discuss ways of economic, commercial and financial cooperation between Qatari and British institutes, and to support joint investment opportunities in several major infrastructure projects between both sides. He also noted the Qatari market is important for British companies, as the investment opportunities has increased due to the giant development plans, the country's plans to diversify the country's economy away from oil and gas sectors.

Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, welcomed the Mayor and his accompanying delegation, and noted that the Qatari-British business relations have strengthened significantly in recent years as a result of Qatar's major investment in the UK, and added that Qatar offers many investment opportunities for investors around the world, as it enjoys peace and security, in addition to the ability to develop many new and modern industries alternative to oil and gas.

Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani Al Thani, expressed the association's willingness to facilitate the communication between the business communities in both countries, and readiness to cooperate with British institute that represent the private sector to promote economic interaction and trade between the two countries.

The local private sector's appetite to invest in the UK was reflected in the participation of over 300 businessmen in the recent Qatari-British business forum, which coincided with the UK visit of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
