Qatar- QC projects help 30,000 Syrian refugees

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) About 30,000 Syrian refugees affected by the recent snow storms in Lebanon have benefited from Qatar Charity (QC) relief projects worth QR2m.

The projects included the distribution of heating fuel, blankets, mattresses, stoves, carpets, winter clothing and plastic insulation for tents.

QC volunteers travelled to Bekaa and Arsal despite heavy snow, rain and severe cold to provide relief to about 5,000 families, QC said in a statement.

The refugees in Arsal and Bekaa, the coldest parts of the country, were covered under the Datheroni campaign.

It was implemented in coordination with Federation of Relief and Development Associations to help poor families keep warm.

"My kids did not know the cold in Syria because our house was big and warm. This tent is a piece of cloth, it does not protect us from the brutality of storms," one female beneficiary said.

"You are the first to provide assistance to us during storm. I did not expect anyone to come because we were cut off by snow and fog." QC continues the campaign, providing shelter, food, health and psychological and emergency winter support.

Its 'Charity Convoy' has distributed 5,000 packages of bread to Syrian refugees in Lebanon and will continue the campaign over the coming days.

A QC team is also distributing emergency relief assistance to Syrian refugees in Jordan under Charity Convoy initiative following snowstorms and loss of life and property.

QC is in the final stages of completing a model village that includes essential services. It is the fourth of its kind in Syria as part of the 'Before the Freeze' campaign.

The village cost QR2m and provides fully furnished housing for 100 Syrian families or about 600 people. It is characterised by facilities and services, including a mosque and a school.

QC has raised QR33m so far under the 'Before they Freeze' initiative.
