(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Jan 28 (KUNA): The UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a humanitarian leader reflects Kuwait's distinguished position in the world stressed Minister of Information Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah. In a statement to KUNA on Wednesday on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the accession of His Highness the Amir to the reins of power in Kuwait Sheikh Salman said the UN honoring emphasizes appreciation by the international community of His Highness the Amir and his efforts aimed at ensuring a dignified life to peoples of the world.
Sheikh Salman also Minister of State for Youth Affairs noted that Kuwaitis are very proud of major successes and achievements by His Highness the Amir inside and outside of Kuwait since the time he participated in public service in order to contribute to setting up a modern state.
The minister noted that the vision of His Highness the Amir to turn the State of Kuwait into a financial and commercial hub across the globe would be a quantum leap in Kuwait's economic growth. He recalled the march of His Highness the Amir in serving Kuwait and its people. Sheikh Salman pointed to the role of His Highness the Amir in setting up the constituent council and participating in drafting the constitution for the newly-independent state of Kuwait. Going through Kuwait's history His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has proved himself to be one of the most outstanding and prominent leaders of the country Deputy Chief of Kuwait National Guards Sheikh Mishaal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said Wednesday. Speaking to KUNA on the ninth anniversary of His Highness the Amir's ascension to power to be celebrated tomorrow Sheikh Mishaal said that Sheikh Sabah's vision and experience qualifies him as being one of the world's leading international figures.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah draws from the well of vast experience that he accumulated throughout his career and his interaction with previous Kuwaiti leaderships as well as regional and international figures said Sheikh Mishaal. His long career serving as foreign minister have helped in gathering support for humanitarian efforts led by Kuwait said the official adding that Sheikh Sabah efforts resulted in naming him as a humanitarian leader by the UN and also choosing Kuwait a global humanitarian center. His Highness Sheikh Sabah also played an important role along with late Amir His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the late father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah in rallying the international community towards the goal of liberating Kuwait from the Iraqi invasion in 1991.
