Dubai ranks 3rd in cargo movements in 2014


(MENAFN) Dubai Airports said that the emirate's airports have moved over 2.4 million tons of cargo traffic in 2014, recording an annual average growth rate of 6.7 percent, Gulf News reported.

Dubai added that due to this growth it has been able to retain its third position after South Korea and Hong Kong in terms of cargo traffic, adding that it is planning to reach 4 million tones volume by 2020.

According to the latest number, Hong Kong was able to move 4.3 million tons during the 12 months period till September 2014, while Seoul moved 2.46 million tons.

"Hong Kong and Korea has got huge manufacturing bases prompting traffic through there. I'm quietly optimistic that we would be able to achieve that growth projected," CEO at Dubai Airports said.

Meanwhile, Dubai Airport said that December's freight volumes decreased by 7 percent with 202.836 tones passing through the facility compared to 218.138 tones recorded during the same month last year.
