Singapore defeats Oman in ACC Twenty20 Cup

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman suffered its first loss in the ongoing ACC Twenty20 Cup in UAE when it lost to Singapore by 23 runs on Tuesday.

Oman which had earlier defeated Saudi Arabia and Malaysia failed to produce the same form against a determined rival at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village ground. Having restricted Singapore to 198-9 in 20 overs Oman could manage only 175-9.

After losing two early wickets inside the first two overs Oman recovered well through middle-order batsman Jatinder Singh who slammed 70 with the help of seven boundaries off only 37 deliveries. However the rest of the Oman batting could not make any impact as wickets fell regular intervals with only Sultan Ahmed (32) and Rajesh Kumar Ranpura (28) reaching double figures.

Earlier Singapore electing to bat first made 198-9 following a splendid 79 from opener Arjun Mutreja. Ajay Lalcheta and Ranpura claimed three wickets each.

After three rounds Oman is currently placed third in the six-team event. It next plays Maldives on Thursday.

Brief scores: Singapore 198-9 in 20 overs (Arjun Mutreja 79 Kshitij Shinde 33 n.o Ajay Lalcheta 3-30 Rajesh Kumar Ranpura 3-38) beat Oman 175-9 in 20 overs (Jatinder 70 Sultan Ahmed 32 Ranpura 28 Selladore Vijayakumar 4-20 Saad Janjua 2-41)
