Qatar to maintain high spending despite falling oil prices


(MENAFN) The Qatari Finance Ministry said that the country does not have any plans to decline its spending on the implementation of its development projects in infrastructure, education and health sectors despite the plunge in global oil prices, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The Ministry added that the they are planning USD200 billion worth various development of projects until 2022, the majority of which will focus on transportation projects and infrastructure, including the railway network, the new port, health, education and sports facilities and the establishment of stadiums, as the country continues with its preparations to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup

"Despite the decline in oil prices, Qatar will continue the path of development and there will be no change in fiscal policy on spending or investment in infrastructure," The Qatari Minister of Finance during his visit to the United States.

Qatar also said that it is keen on establishing strong partnerships with US companies, as it has important investments in the United States, adding that it is planning to increase these investments over the next five years to exceed USD35 billion that will be centered on a number of sectors including energy, technology and real estate.
