PM, New Zealand FM discuss ties, Mideast

Date:

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday discussed with the visiting New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, a number of issues of common interest and ways to further enhance bilateral ties.

Ensour overviewed the implications of the Syrian crisis, saying the Kingdom is hosting more than one and a half million Syrian refugees, an influx that had put further strains on its limited resources.

As a result of the Syrian refugee crisis, he said, the economic problem in Jordan became a real challenge for his government. Ensour said that the international community has not provided sufficient aid to enable the Kingdom to meet the refugees' needs.

Ensour reiterated Jordan's support of a political solution in Syria involving all Syrians to end the bloodshed and ensure the return of all refugees to their country.

He also said that Islam is the religion of moderation that renounces all forms of violence and extremism and rejects the justifications that the terrorist organizations claim on behalf of the religion.

"They cannot be part of our religion at all", he added, pointing out that Islam is a religion that respects all Monotheistic faiths.

McCully said he was willing to coordinate with the Jordan Mission at the UN Security Council with regard to the Palestinian issue, the Syrian refugees and the fight against terrorist organizations.
