In2town Speaks To JW Cherry III The Author Of Your Vote Matters

(MENAFNEditorial)

In2town got together with JW Cherry III the author of Your Vote Matters for a chat about politics and his latest book. The interview has been made available for free for blogs and magazines to use and publish.

At a time when America made history with their first black President some say history has been spoilt. Depending on whom you ask President Obama could go down in history as the worst president. However other people may say he is the President of the people. No matter what people say one thing is for sure people need to vote so they have a voice. Unfortunately a large number of people in America fail to vote which could result in the wrong person running the country.

One person who knows all about politics and our important politics is to our lives is JW Cherry III the author of Your Vote Matters. We decided to get together with JW Cherry III and have a chat about politics and his book.

REPORTER: What specifically are you advocating or looking to accomplish by writing this book?

JW CHERRY III: I want those who are challenged with the basic cares of daily life to understand their true POWER. I intend to educate the poor and middle America about the value of each election and that we have 3 branches of government that come into POWER during different elections at different times.  I want them to understand the value of each election and the POWER these elections hold. It is a great travesty when someone has the ultimate power over their life and they do not know how to use it.

REPORTER: Do you think the result of the 2010 and 2014 mid-term election were unique to President Obama presidency?

JW CHERRY III: No Not at all however it is his presidency that has revealed the peoples lack of understanding related to why to vote in all elections. Since 2008 there was no need to push hard to register people to Vote. Due to the historic possibility of President Obama becoming President many more people registered. After he was elected there was no need to push for registration for the mid-term elections since his candidacy had motivated so many to vote who may not have intended to vote and it brought many new voters to the process. In 2010 and 2014 that same registered population stayed home when they had the opportunity to vote and elect like-minded representatives of President Obamas but they stayed home not realizing the importance of the mid-term elections thinking they had already accomplish what they needed and wanted by electing  President Obama  someone they felt  would accomplish their needs and agendas however with 20 percent of those people not voting in the mid-terms  makes it very clear  that the people just do  not understand how  important it is to participate in the mid-terms they do not understand how the  system really  works.

REPORTER:  With President Obama only having two years remaining in office has his presidency been a missed opportunity for his supporters?

JW CHERRY III: Absolutely not President Obamas presidency is a great learning moment in the age of Citizens United where the supreme court’s ruling allowing unlimited and unaccountable money into the election process it is now evident that the “Power Of the Population” “POP” can influence our representatives and get our representatives to focus on the people’s needs and wants directly and not the Donors with multi million dollars agenda’s. Clearly a Congressperson getting re-elected and maintaining power is so important to them this is the POWER of the Voter which can shape their views.  I intend to help the people realize their Power and influence.  These realities were once hard to make clear to people now through the example of President Obamas presidency it can be demonstrated for many years to come. Just look at Mitt Romney he now wants to run on a platform of fixing poverty after once stating he was not worried about the poor because they have a safety net. What governs the change in Mr. Romney’s values at least seemingly is that he wants that additional population support.     That is the power of the vote!

REPORTER: Ok let’s slightly change the topic. In your opinion how relevant is your campaign for voting rights and education related to the resent concerns of police brutality with the shooting of “black men” in Ferguson Missouri and New York.

JW CHERRY III: Voting is key! As it relates to police and the community in my view the relationship between state prosecutor’s and the police is an obvious conflict of interest relationship. The prosecutor’s office and the police work closely together daily yet the same prosecutor is left to decide cases involving the investigative and possible prosecuting process involving the questions of possible wrongful acts by the police. By voting and electing our representatives we can achieve accountability which is always essential where decisions of Justice are being pursued.  Electing representatives by voting is that accountability.

REPORTER: JW do you think the 1965 Voting Rights Act was no longer necessary and had served its purpose?

JW CHERRY III: The answer to that question is so self-evident when primarily southern states the original suppressers  of voting rights as early as 2 hours after the invalidation of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act started presenting discriminatory laws which were already drafted. Anytime there is an effort to eliminate opportunities for voters to vote making the hours and days less flexible drafting laws with the non-discriminating title of Voter ID laws yet these laws describe discriminating legislation of course we need the Voting Rights Act and the only way to revisit this great legislation is through the power of the vote.   As Justice Scalia stated “Racial Entitlement Laws” are hard to get rid of once enacted so the Justices decided they could invalidate the Act with no fear of re-election. Since they have life time terms.                 The need for voter participation was very clear using the example of Al Gore candidacy for President.  Al Gore did not just lose an election he lost the ability to appoint the next Chief Justice.   If we had elected Al Gore as President Justice Roberts one of 5 Justices who voted to invalidate the Section 5 the protection provisions of the Voting Rights Act would never have been appointed by President George W. Bush and Justice Roberts could not have voted that decision to invalidated Section 5 of the Voting Right Act. This is a great example why ALL elections matter.  I hope people read my book for educational purpose and learn why “Your Vote Matters”.

REPORTER: Well thank JW you have made it clear why “Your Vote Matters” Thanks for the interview.
