(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Ceramics Co a manufacturer of vitreous China sanitaryware has obtained the ISO:14001 certificate for its environmental management system and the OSHAS:18001 certificate for occupational health and safety standards.
Having already received the ISO: 9001 quality management system certificate in 2008 Oman Ceramics has become the only company in Oman's ceramics industry that has been certified for all the three systems.
Amal Suhail Bahwan chairperson of Oman Ceramics received the certificates from Venugopal Balakrishnan director of DAS Certification Services MENA region at a ceremony in the presence senior officials from the various ministries consultants architects contractors trade partners and customers. DAS Certification Ltd. is a leading global provider of management systems assessment and certification services.
Speaking to reporters Vish Natrajan CEO of Oman Ceramics said the company which can produce 600000 pieces of sanitaryware per annum is currently operating at 60 to 65 per cent capacity.
He said 'Our current production capacity is constrained by limited availability of natural gas. We are awaiting additional gas allocation from the government to increase production. We can reach full capacity only if additional gas is available. The government has promised to allot extra gas by 2016 and once we have additional gas we can achieve full capacity.'
Commenting on the certifications Amal said 'Sustainable environment management and occupational health and safety standards in any manufacturing activity are very important management responsibilities. I am glad Oman Ceramics has proactively worked and achieved these goals to become the first company in the ceramics industry of Oman.'
Natrajan said the company's concern for the environment and safety and well-being of employees led it to the ISO: 14001 and OSHAS: 18001 certifications.
