King receives Arab and International Relations Council delegation


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, January 26 (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Monday, discussed with a delegation from the Arab and International Relations Council a number of Middle Eastern issues and efforts underway to establish peace and stability in the region.

His Majesty emphasized that the Palestinian cause remains the crux of the conflict in the region and resolving is a gateway to settling other problems in the region. He underlined Jordan's support for peacemaking endeavors to bring about an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

He further noted the Kingdom's commitment to safeguarding Muslim and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem.

The King told the delegation, which convened a meeting in Amman today for a discussion on pan-Arab issues, that the body has an important role in shedding light on developments in the region.

Speaking on the fight against terrorism, King Abdullah stressed the need to unify Arab and Muslim efforts in the fight against extremism.
