Hollande calls new Greek PM to discuss EU outlook

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French President Francois Hollande on Monday spoke by phone with Greek Prime Minister-elect, Alexis Tsipras, who won a sweeping victory in legislative elections on Sunday.

Tsipras, who heads a radical left party in his country, has vowed to end the austerity imposed by the European Union and its Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and which was imposed in a bailout deal to end the Greek debt crisis and avoid default by Athens on public and private debt.

"The President of the Republic expressed a willingness to favour discussions and dialogue to allow Greece to find once again the path to stability and growth, in a spirit of solidarity and responsibility which brings all Europeans together," Hollande's office said in a statement.

The French leader offered support and said "France would be at the side of Greece in this important period for its future." Hollande also invited Tsipras to come to Paris in the near future.
