Libyans hold second dialogue round in Geneva

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Representatives of Libyan parties held their second round of the UN-facilitated political dialogue at the UN headquarters in Geneva on Monday, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said.

Today's session is a follow up of meetings that were held in Geneva on January 14-15, it added in a statement.

It said representatives of municipal and local councils would begin their meeting on Wednesday to discuss confidence-building measures.

The Libyan parties agreed, during the first round, on an agenda that paved the way for a political solution, which included formation of a national consensus government, ending hostilities and gradual withdrawal of armed groups.

The agreement also calls for confidence-building measures, releasing those arrested without trial, immediate release of kidnapped people and providing information about missing persons, stopping provocative media campaigns to contribute to reconciliation and national unity.

The agreement calls for improving living conditions of Libyan people, and rejection of violence and terrorism.

UNSMIL appeals to all the Libyan parties and invited participants to approach these talks, aimed at ending Libya's political and security crisis, in a spirit of openness and reconciliation that is guided by the higher national interest of the Libyan people.
