Kuwait through to final against Saudi in GCC Cup U-23s

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait will face former runners-up and two-time champions Saudi Arabia in the final of the Gulf Cup for Men's Under-23s after beating Oman, 5-4, in a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw on Monday.

Saudi Arabia progressed to the final of the regional football tournament with an identical result against the United Arab Emirates in the earlier-held semi-final.

Ahmad Hezam opened the scoring early in the sixth minute for his nation before Oman equalized a few minutes before the end of the first half.

But it was Abdullah Al-Mutairi who made it all possible for Al-Azrag as he scored the winning goal on the penalty spot after both Mohammad Khaled and Sami Al-Sanea's opportunities went begging.

Following the match, Kuwait's chief delegate Ahmad Al-Duwaila expressed delight at the triumph, explaining that it was the fruits of the hard work of the squad.

The side are now focused on winning the tournament for the first time, ahead of preparing for the 2016 Asian Cup for U-23s due in Qatar, added the team official, who described the young side as the "nucleus of the future senior side."
