Greek fighter jet crash in Spain kills 10, injures 19


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Ten people were killed in a massive Greek fighter jet collision which occurred during a joint NATO military drill in Spain, alongside 19 injured.

Among those injured were 10 Frenchmen and 11 Italians, while the Spanish Ministry of Defence earlier mentioned that the two pilots of the Greek F-16 jet were killed along with another eight French nationals.

"The plane, part of the Tactical Leadership Programme of NATO was carrying out a (training) exercise when during take-off the plane lost power, crashing into the parking area for planes, crashing into various planes that were parked there," according to the ministry statement.

According to local TV reports, Spain's Defence Minister Pedro Morenes has personally headed to Los Llanos airbase in the southeastern city of Albacete to oversee rescue operations and firefighting efforts.

The location has been cordoned off as efforts continue to put out the huge fire resulting from the incident, which occurred a couple of hours after midday local time on Tuesday.
